Lavender is one of the great pleasures of summer. Generous, it offers an abundance of small flowers with a characteristic scent. It has its place in all gardens, from the most humble to the most refined, pruned on the edge or growing wild in an orchard. There are many ways to take advantage of its virtues: as a bouquet, as a flavoring in the kitchen, to flavor linen… What we offer you here is a fragrant and aesthetic achievement, namely a pretty spindle of lavender that you can slip between two stacks of household linen or hang on a handle as a decorative object. The realization is simple, the means just as much, to the point that you can make your spindle without even leaving your garden, provided you have a few sprigs of raffia on hand. If this is not the case, replace this fiber with ribbon or wool, depending on the desired effect. How many strands to choose? We propose to make the spindle by braiding the strands two by two. For this, you need an odd number of pairs of strands (for example 11x2 or 22 strands in total). Otherwise, the string always passes in the same place, either always above or always below, the strands not crossing correctly. The logic is the same as in the case of pleating. Step 1: Pick the sprigs of lavender
When picking, choose long strands, knowing that you can always cut the excess once the spindle is finished. You can work indifferently from lavender still in bloom or deflowered, your spindle will smell just as good. Note that it is always necessary to work from fresh strands, otherwise they will lose their flexibility and break during production. 
Step 2: Clean the stems
It is simply a matter of removing the leaves and small lavender grains located under the base of the ear in order to have smooth stems, without any branching. 
Step 3: Tie the strands together
Form a small bouquet and tie it to the base of the ears using a raffia thread. Choose it along preferably, this will limit the number of fittings. 
Step 4: Fold down the strands
Start folding down the stems with the bouquet in your hand. This stage is the most delicate, because as fresh as they are, the stems remain fragile. The care taken in this step determines the final appearance of the spindle, so be careful not to break the strands and distribute them harmoniously. 
Step 5: Start braiding
Begin braiding by passing your raffia thread first over two strands of lavender, then under the next two strands, and so on. Tighten well (always taking care not to break the strands!) In anticipation of the shrinkage that will form on drying. 
Step 6: Make the wire connections
It is very likely that your thread will not be long enough to make the whole spindle. To make a connection, you just need to tie a new thread to the one you use for braiding, by cutting the connection as close as possible to the knot to make it as space-saving as possible. During the following braiding, arrange to make it disappear between two strands! 
Step 7: Make a pretty knot at the base of the spindle
The spindle is finished, tie the thread at the base by forming a pretty knot, or a loop if you prefer, both to finish it nicely and allow you to hang it. 
Step 8: Equalize the strands
It remains only to cut the stems to equalize their size. 
There it's finished ! Hang the spindle on a door, slip it into a pile of clothes to delicately scent them, at your leisure!
